We are back with another installment of what to consider for your wedding day! Do you have a cute, adorable dog that you want to include throughout your wedding journey? If so, keep reading 🥳. We will talk about a few tips on how to include your dog throughout your wedding journey, including both engagement session and wedding day/events. *Note* we are not saying you can’t incorporate other pets in your wedding, we have only experience dogs in wedding journey activities.
TBH, there are a lot of commonalities between bringing your furry family members and small human family members to a photo session or your wedding. I can say this because I have both human children and a pup so before someone gets in their feelings about my comment, I am speaking from experience, ok?! Lol
Anyway, part of including your dog throughout your wedding journey is making sure we have treats/food and water. Just like human kiddos, our furry family members need breaks and sustenance to carry on the day. We do provide/offer treats for your engagement session and just like kids, we ask if your furry family members have any allergies or dietary restrictions.
Another way to how to include your dog throughout your wedding journey is to make sure you have set up a sitter (family or paid) to take care of your furry family members during the engagement session and on your wedding day. Yes there will be times where we need to photograph just the two of you, so it really helps to bring someone else to the session so they can pet sit. Expect the sitter to be with your fur baby throughout the whole session, especially if there is location change and wardrobe change.
In regards to the wedding day, make sure your venue is ok with fur babies in the space. If so, make sure you dedicate a space for your fur baby for them to relax before and after their photo ops. You should still have someone dedicated to take care of your fur baby on the day so you can focus on the wedding and party! If not, you should hire a pet sitter for the day, that can bring your fur baby on site for certain parts of the day, then take them back to their space(or your home) afterwards. This should not be something to worry or stress about on your day. Being prepared helps so much!
Similar to human children….let your fur baby be themselves. They are animals and they will do what they want 😂😂. It’s ok if they don’t look at the camera on the first take. It will take time, but we will get them to look at the camera and pose ‘appropriately’. Please let us know in advance if your fur baby is trained to look in the direction of their name being called. It helps a lot for when you are in front of the camera and we are behind the camera. As mentioned above, they can possibly need a break from being in front of the camera then come back and get those photographs.
Super important: let us know in advance if you are including your fur baby in either your engagement session, your wedding day or both. We also want to know their temperament and social skills. This will be discussed during the planning phase of your engagement session or your wedding day schedule.
For the engagement session, we need to know if they will be a part of this in advance so we can select an appropriate location for your session. If you are wanting an indoor session, we would need to confirm with the location in advance if they allow fur babies and whether it is an additional fee or not. If it is an outdoor session, we also want to make sure that we are not too close to a children’s park as we dont want your fur baby to either get defensive or too excited that they will not focus.
On the wedding day even if its a ‘surprise’ for your guests, we need to know. There is nothing worse than surprising your photographer and we completely miss the moment because we were not aware of it. Throughout the wedding journey process, we want to be lock and step with you to make sure we are executing correctly on your day.
