On this week’s blog post, we are discussing my favorite locations within the DMV area (Washington D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia) for an engagement session. Your engagement session should encompass the vibe or feel you are going for with your wedding. I recommend to couples that your engagement session timeline should match the season of your wedding. For example, if your wedding is in the Fall, your engagement session should also be in the fall OR have a fall feel/vibe to it. There are PLENTY of locations through the tri-city area and you can definitely select locations based on your style and vision of your engagement session. So let’s dive in!
So if you are willing to travel up to the Baltimore area and spend some time there, you will not be disappointed! This location has the cobble-stone, the architecture and the intimate garden space all in one! Between the monuments, the architecture of the church across the street or the views from the hill, this space in Baltimore has wonderful options! This would be the perfect location to spend the day for your engagement session, then head down to the waterfront for food, music and the scenery!
Book Hill Park is one of the many hidden gems within Washington D.C. The views of Georgetown, from the hill is breathtaking. This park sits behind the Georgetown Neighborhood Library and it is open to the public. This location is perfect for those outdoor engagement sessions that could include a picnic for two! This location has street parking (which you will need to pay for) or park in the library’s parking lot.
If you are going for an Old World European vibe for your engagement session, PLEASE have your session at the Larz Anderson House. Pretty sure you drove by this location a few times and did not realize all the amazingness of this house! When you rent out the Larz Anderson House for your engagement session, you have a min of 2 hours to basically utilize almost all the rooms AND the garden for your engagement session. This is also a wonderful location for smaller intimate weddings or even large weddings!
Seneca Creek Park is in Gaithersburg Maryland. The park, comprised of 6,300 acres, extends along 14 scenic miles of Seneca Creek, as it winds its way to the Potomac River. The Clopper Day-Use Area contains many scenic areas, including the 90-acre Clopper Lake, surrounded by forests and fields. If you are looking for greenery or even a lake view in your photographs, this is a great place to do so!
The Bishop’s Garden and National Cathedral are the venues when you want to mix nature with architecture. The Garden has so many pathways and playful areas for those intimate moments during an engagement session. And the Cathedral speaks for itself, European inspired architecture with so many arches, stairways and intricate moldings. This is one of my favorites!!
I hope this helps when it comes to selecting your location. If your wedding venue allows it, reach out to see if you can also utilize it for your engagement session!
